Dave Neilands reports . . . .

The cold blustery wind did not deter a record field of 353 at Garstang Running Club’s Guy 10 the ten mile road race starting and finishing, and also generously sponsored by Guy’s Eating House at Bilsborrow.

The winner was Ben Fish of Blackburn Harriers in 51.03 minutes, nearly two and a half minutes ahead of his nearest challenger. First lady was Vicky Gill of Chorley Harriers who finished an impressive 12th overall in 56.55.  First home for the club was Mike Whyatt, 5th and 1st MV40 in 53.57, followed by Richard Roberts 43rd in  63.11; Geoff Lyons 77th in 67.05; Richard Jones 99th in 69.59; Graham Hobson 127th in 72.33; Helen Vinnicombe 138th in 73.16; Malcolm Vinnicombe 145th in 73.39; Pam Murphy 233rd in 81.31; Edwina Parry 242nd in 82.10; Philippa Olive 252nd in 1:23:45, Denise Hughes with yet another personal best 270th in 86.11; Claire Lyons 276th in 87.13; birthday boy Mike Hall 279th in 87.16; Julie Graham 291st in 88.54; Heather Tipping 323th in 95.54 and Tracey Winter 343rd in 1 hour 43 minutes.  For those that were counting that is 16 people representing the club – easily a record, but there was also a record turn out from the marshalls without whom the event would not have been possible. Not bad from a membership of about 75 – bigger running clubs would be very envious!
