Dave Neilands reports . . . .

It is highly possible that, contrary to previous belief, doing four marathons this year has not blunted the speed of Garstang Running Club’s Tim Warner.  Only one week after failing to raise a sprint at the slightly hilly Snowdonia Marathon he completed the Derwentwater 10 two minutes quicker than the previous year – age is not wearying him!  Furthermore Tim followed this by completing the Preston 10 only 3 seconds slower than his lifetime best – he obviously needs to do more, not less marathons next year!

At Derwentwater Richard Roberts finished 36th in 1 hour 3.29 minutes, with Tim  100th in 1.09.43 and Julie Graham 378th of the 485 finishers in 1.58.08.  The Preston 10 had another large field of 476 with Richard Roberts 56th in 1.02.03, Tim 105th in 1.06.52, Helen Vinnicombe 215th in 1.13.39 and Denise Hughes 387th in 1.27.33.  The Wesham 10k had another large field, 413 and it was Dave Barraclough who led the club home in 98th place in 43.29 minutes followed by Brian Hughes, making a welcome return to fitness and probably finding running marginly safer than cycling, finishing 260th in 50.41.  Brian was followed by his wife, Denise who finished behind him in 284th place (even though she could easily have beaten him but no doubt thought better of it) in 52.25.

For something slightly more varied Richard Jones took in the Eaves Wood Trail race near Milnthorpe, a country tour of some 5.25 miles.  In a field of 99 Richard finished an excellent 32nd in 45.03 minutes
