Dave Neilands reports . . . .

Readers of this column could be forgiven for thinking that Richard Roberts and Pete Gelderd are the only Garstang Running Club members who regularly compete in races.  In the last two weeks Richard clocked up another three races and Pete another one to add to their overall tally.  I suspect however that they have some way to go to equal the Lancaster runner who celebrated his 70th birthday and his 600th race on the same day.  At the Preston 10k Richard finished 20th in a field of 366 in 37.42 minutes and Pete 249th in 53.12.  Richard was “on his own” at the Farleton Knott Fell race where he finished 17th in a field of 58 and at the Blackburn 10k where he finished 20th and 3rd MV40 in 38.04 with 200 runners also competing.

At the present rate of progress Richard is well on his way to completing 600 races before his 70th birthday.  As for Pete, he will need to avoid as least three “life threatening” injuries if he has any hope of clocking the big 600 as time marches on!
