Neilands reports .

Three Garstang Running Club members took part in the first running of
the Ceurden Trail race which
was an excellent race but beset with teething problems or rather little
toe rags who moved the course markers! Times were probably irrelevant
but Brian Hughes finished 37th
in 54.33 minutes, Al Hartley
39th in 55.02 and Denise Hughes
46th in 56.28 with the 64 competitors who eventually finished being
greeted with tea and cake.
Phil and Betty Roberts and Richard Roberts took part in the
week long Cape Wrath Challenge
a series of races on the north coast of Scotland. For most of the
week runners were bashed by wind and rain however the hospitality of
the locals more than made up for the inclement weather. On the
first day of two races Richard and Phil finished 2nd and 3rd in
the Half Marathon whilst Betty finished 9th in the 10k. The next
day - a hill run, saw Richard finish first and Phil 3rd with
Betty 35th. Richard won the following days off road
race with Phil again 3rd and Betty 39th. The next day's
Target Zero Beach run, where competitors run without watches and try to
run as close to their nominated time as possible saw Betty coming into
her own, running within 7 seconds of her estimated time and finishing
fourth. The guys fared less well with Phil running 2.27 minutes
slower and Richard nearly six minutes slower. The last race was the
Marathon where Phil finished 2nd in 3 hours 13.45 beaten only by a
runner whose only race was the marathon. Richard paired up with
another runner to run as a team and was the winner of that race.
Finally Mike Whyatt was
out again on the road at the Haigh
Hall 5 where he finished 2nd and 1st Vet 40 in 26.19 minutes
with the 90th and final competitor completing the course in 53.55
minutes.
