Dave Neilands reports . . . .

If Garstang Running Club members venture into Cumbria for their races then the word "undulating" is an odds on certainty to appear in any race report. The Haweswater Half Marathon and the Dentdale 14.3 miles are no exception to this theory, however there is another theory that the magnificent countryside, even in early Spring, helps runners forget about the little undulations! Tim Warner and Julie Graham were amongst the 280 runners who did the circle of Haweswater with Tim finishing 66th in 1 hour 12.40 minutes and Julie 223rd in 1 hour 56.42 minutes.

At Dentdale, near Sedbergh, the ups and downs were in the shape of a figure of eight - so never far from Dent village, but very hard work. Richard Roberts was the first club member, 20th in 1 hour 32.17 minutes followed by Frank Miller, now well into his London Marathon training, 170th in 1.56.59, and Geoff Lund, now well into his third pint, 208th in 2.01.31 with the 350th and final competitor finishing the course exactly one hour after Geoff - obviously not wanting to upset him by passing him!
