It was the North of England Cross Country Championships for eight Garstang Running Club members rather than the Mid Lancs League and the difference in class was there for all to see.The venue was a not too muddy Witton Park at Blackburn and the cold, sunny conditions were ideal for cross country.  Despite a fine performance from Mike Whyatt, 76th place was his reward, with Richard Roberts 302nd, Tony Pritchard 362nd, Dave Barraclough 439th, Geoff Lyons 483rd, John Pitchford 505th and Pete Gelderd 566th in a huge field of 579, but twelve minutes in front of that final finisher.

Richard Roberts was out again the following day at the Chernobyl Charity 10k at Preston where he finished 18th and 2nd MV40 in 37.22 minutes. Richard was joined by Denise (reverting back from Debbie, the name she preferred last week) Hughes who finished 298th in 53.15 minutes in another large field of 469 competitors
